Relvey stopped for a moment, throwing himself into a dramatic pose before loudly exclaiming, "A tanuki, my dear girl, is better known as a raccoon dog! The species itself is actually a part of the canid family, therefore it has similar characteristics to dogs, foxes, and wolves, but the tanuki closely resembles a raccoon. And, for a fun fact, you can note that Tom Nook's name sounds similar to the species. Tom Nook. Tanuki." Pulling himself out of his dramatic moment, he began to strut toward the store again.
The boy listened carefully and began to wonder about the fish himself. "I suppose they can't talk because... well we eat them, and it would be horrible to hear their screams as we brutally killed them." He said this as if there was nothing horrifying or terrible about it. "It is strange, but it's a wonderful place. After a while, you get used to the oddness of it."
It seemed the girl had no more questions for him for the moment, so he let his mind wander a bit. For some reason, he ached to get home and lay around in his basement. He enjoyed that room more than the others. He never let anyone down there, so he never felt like it needed to be amazing to impress others. He loved it the way it was, a mess with furniture all over the place.

Lian nodded. "That does make sense," she said. "Is that an animal just here, or can you find them anywhere?" Having never heard of it, Lian thought that they might be something ONLY in Hometown. That would make sense.
"Also, we don't eat insects..." Lian shrugged. "It's just a strange town, I guess." After thinking for a second, she added, "I like strange. It's more... interesting." That made her think of one of her favorite quotes: They laugh at me because I'm different. I laugh at them because they're all the same.
"So where is this Nook?" Lian asked. "For that matter, WHO is he?" All she knew was that he was a raccoon. "Like, what does he do?" She figured that he did something, because they were probably going to him for a reason.

"I wouldn't say anywhere. Mostly in Asia, I believe, though the tanuki is most commonly referred to as the Japanese Raccoon Dog. They are probably common in these animal inhabited towns, however." Relvey explained.
The boy laughed at her next comment. "Well, I have eaten a bug before. They aren't very good, I don't suggest you try them." he said, giggling at the memory. Ah, chocolate covered bugs. Not a delicious treat. "And strange is good. After all, who wants to live in a normal, boring town?"
"We shall find Nook at his store, Nook's Cranny. You see, Nook is a shopkeeper and he sells most goods at a reasonable price. You can buy furniture, wallpaper, carpets, tools, flowers, trees, stationary, and paper there. All clothing and accessories are sold in the shop next door." Relvey said, nodding as he listed off each item. He believed he mentioned everything, but he supposed that he would live even if he missed something.

(DID you make that up? And Parox, we're not there anymore. We're walking to Nook's I think. xD)
Frowning, Lian said, "Are you sure? I thought they were fake... I mean, couldn't the Nooks be the only one?" SHE thought she had a good point-- because it was true, she had heard them mentioned before as false-- but she was curious to see what Relvey thought.
"And why did you eat that bug?" She had heard of chocolate covered bugs-- her brother had even eaten one once-- but they didn't sound good. At all. "By the way, one of the main reasons that I came here is because it's strange. Strange IS good."
"Why would Nook help with a dead turtle?" Lian added. THAT didn't make much sense, if he was the owner of a store. It would be a little TOO strange if he wanted to buy or sell a mayor's dead body, after all.

{ Tanuki are real animals. )
"Oh, they are quite real. Like I said, though, tanuki are often mistaken for raccoons, so I can see where there might be some confusion." Relvey said this with the utmost confidence. He had looked up a lot of information on all the animals in the town when he had first moved there.
He laughed at her comment. "Well... technically it was for a science class when I was growing up. We were required to eat bugs to pass the class.... I wish I hadn't, it was really gross." He didn't make anymore comments about the town being strange because he felt that they had definitely established that the town was... strange.
"Well, you see... Nook plays a very important role in the town. Not only is he a shopkeeper, but he owns much of the land around here. In fact, he's probably the one who sold you the house here. I'm sure that he will know what to do with the body; I can't think of anyone who would have any better ideas than him." the boy explained.

"Huh," Lian said with a frown. "You're making me wonder why I've never heard of them." Lian had seen something with the words "tanuki" and "folklore" which made her believe that they were false. Apparently not... that was why she usually read the whole sentence.
"Now, what class made you eat bugs to pass?" Lian raised an eyebrow. That would make some people puke. Puking is NOT pleasant experience. And basing something like that on weather you pass or fail?
Lian snorted. "You're making it sound like we killed him," she said amused. "Like we're hiding it." She frowned thoughfully. "I wonder who did," she said. "Was it really of old age?"

"Well, they probably aren't very well known. Most people just think of them as raccoons anyway, but I like to be specific. You could probably ask a lot of people what a tanuki is and they'd say they didn't know." Relvey said, nodding as he did.
Relvey laughed as he thought about his former school. "My Biology teacher was a bit nuts. He enjoyed torturing his students."
"I sure hope so. I mean, I didn't see any blood, so I doubt it's a murder. 'Could be a heart attack, though." He giggled at the image of Tortimer getting surprised before fainting due to a heart attack. Then he realized that the thought was disrespectful and he forced himself to stifle another giggle.

Lian snorted. "You should write a book on all these people. You'd probably make a lot of money." She rolled her eyes because it was true.
"I still want to know what eating insects has to do with biology," she said. "How'd the teacher get away with that, anyways-- oh! There it is!"
They had come up to a shop called 'Nook's Cranny.' Lian looked at it curiously. To be honest, she had thought that if Nook was such a well known person in this village then he would have a bigger place.
(Timmy and Tommy shouldn't be born yet...)

"Me? Write a book? Haha, no way. I can't write for the life of me!" Relvey laughed and scratched his head. He didn't really understand why she even suggested him writing a book. What would he write about? Why was he talking to this crazy girl!?
He laughed again at her next comment about his former teacher. "Haha, well I think the entire staff was slightly cruel. The principal probably enjoyed watching the students suffer with bug taste in their mouths."
As they arrived at Nooks, Relvey noticed the look on Lian's face. "It's small, right? He usually just sells junk, so no one really buys it. Sad, isn't it? Haha. If he'd just get a better inventory, he'd have more money."

"Don't give me that look!" Lian said. "I can picture that." She hesitated. "Well, I can picture the book. Not really you writing it. You don't seem like that type." Amusedly, she wondered waht the people would think about a book about THEM. With someone like Relvey as the writer, it would probably be a bit... critical.
"If all he does is sell junk and rent houses, can you tell me why WE'RE going there?" Lian asked. "I think I ought to know before I walk in." It would seem a little stupid to say 'The mayor died or something. For some reason Relvey said we should come here. No idea why.'
Then again, Relvey's reaction might be interesting.
