The morning air was chilly and it made Relvey wonder why he had woken up at such an un-Godly time of the day. Really, nine-thirty? Who in their right mind would get up at such a time! With the sigh, the boy ran his fingers through his hair and closed his eyes. He wondered if it was only chilly because he was so near the ocean. Perhaps it was just the sprinkling of the cool water on his skin that made it feel colder than it really was outside. He decided to test this theory and walked away from his house.
Relvey had moved to this place known as Hometown not too long ago. He had met all the neighbors so far, though there were few, and he had explored all he could. However, the only two stores in town were small and... sad, the museum was empty (though the cafe was amazing!) and the in Town Hall there were some annoying pelicans and a dried out old turtle. He was bored of this town already, and wished something exciting would happen soon.
As he stepped across the bridge, still near the ocean, the boy wondered if he should visit his good friend, Bob. He wasn't actually sure if the cat was awake at the moment, though, and he was kind of hungry and something about Bob just made him hungrier. 'I'll put off visiting him for later...' He thought, and stopped for a moment to decide where to head next. Relvey shivered, still feeling cold because he hadn't really gotten away from the ocean yet. He figured it would be best to just head up, and maybe stop at the store to see what was in the inventory for the day.
So he headed up quickly, noticing that he did, in fact, warm up as he got farther north. He smiled at this, and continued onward. Looking across the river, he noticed Calm Lotus's home, and he wondered if he should visit her later as well.

Calm Lotus walked through the town she had just moved into. It was beautiful. Since it was fall, the fruit were falling. Lian started picking the fruit up, dropping it into the basket she had brought for just this reason. There were apples, oranges, cherries. The peaches and pears looked especially appealing. She had heard that there might even be coconuts, but she didn't see any. That was too bad-- Lian loved coconuts. Lian picked up an apple, wiped it off on her shirt, and took a bite. It was delicious. She smiled, and put another apple in the basket. "Dangit," she muttered when it fell on a cherry and smashed it. The cherry didn't even have a pit-- which was nice until something fell on it. Licking the cherry off of the apple, Lian decided that she was staying here. What other town had fruit everywhere like this? Especially not so GOOD. Lian walked through the trees behind the town hall and shivered. It was cold with the leaves hiding the sun. Looking around, Lian stopped. She saw a... green rock? No that wasn't it. It was a turtle. She walked over to the turtle. "Oh my god!" she exclaimed. The turtle was dead. She saw that he was wearing glasses, and recognized him at once. This was the mayor! "Help!" she shouted. "Tortimer is dead. HELP!"

Relvey was continuing his slow walk when he heard a loud call of 'help!' Curious to know what was happening, he sped up and headed toward the area from which the sound came from. When he arrived, he found Lian looking terrified, though he didn't know what she was scared of- not at first, anyway. He looked past her, and noticed the body of some turtle on the ground, unmoving and perhaps... rotting? He briefly wondered why someone left a dead turtle on the ground when he remembered that he lived in a community made up mostly of animals, and that the only turtle he knew of was... "Is that Tortimer?"
He then realized that this was the reason the girl had been screaming. Who wouldn't, after all this was the mayor who was dead on the ground. Well... technically the turtle was old, so Relvey wasn't that surprised. He had actually expected the dude to drop earlier, though perhaps less unexpectedly. In fact, Relvey had always imagined that if the mayor were to die, it would be on a holiday, because he'd get overly excited, perhaps have a bit too much to drink, then he'd fall in the ocean and drown. For some reason, Relvey enjoyed thinking of funny ways for people to die.
But, he was getting a bit off track. "Dude, the mayor is dead. I'm not sure if I should be happy, or horrified that there is a rotting body in our town..."

Puzzled, Lian said, "Why would you be happy?" She had just moved to the town, so she didn't know much. Maybe he was a bad mayor. In her old town there had been a very bad mayor. That mayor had died, and his successor was even worse. She made a fool of the town. Lian, no longer proud of her town, had moved away. She had been hoping that Hometown would be better, but maybe this was an omen... Lian shook that thought away. She didn't believe in omens. Smirking, Lian added, "Did he suck or something? By the way, I don't think I know you." She would have to meet people the next day. It was boring, with no friends yet. And she had a feeling that there were some strange people here-- perfect for here. Lian liked the weird people-- they were always the ones she befriended. Tabby with her brightly died hair, for example, looked promising... On the other hand, Lian knew next to nothing about Relvey. Only his name.

"That guy was so old, I've been waiting for him to drop for years!" Relvey exclaimed and laughed. That made him sound like a terrible person, but he didn't really care. "But no, he wasn't a bad mayor. He did his job well, even though he just slept most of the time. He was just old, and I get bored of old things quickly."
The pink-haired boy knew most things that happened in the town. He was an information seeker, as well as a gossip, so he made sure he knew everything and anything that was going on, that and the story behind every person who lived in Hometown. That being said, there were many people who knew very little about Relvey, but he was able to find out a lot about all those people, to a point where it was scary. He would never tell of his stalking-talents, though, as he didn't want to be seen as a bigger creeper than he already was.
However, it was then that he realized that after he snooped around people's lives, he felt like the really knew them. He didn't actually think about it until just now, but he had never talked to Lian before his. It was strange how things happened like that. But, no matter. "No, you don't. I'm sorry, I should have introduced myself sooner. I'm Relvey, longtime resident of Hometown. My favorite color is pink, but I swear I'm straight as a pole. My house is the only one along the shore, with a rose garden nearby. I love pine furniture, and for that reason, I decorated my first floor room to look like a cafe. Those are some basic facts about me; feel free to ask any questions!" The boy said, spinning around in a dramatic way at the end of his speech.
Relvey, being the person he was, often went from speaking like he was casually talking to a friend, using a lot of slang and such to talking in a more dignified manner. He never really considered himself a formal, nor a casual person, so he had a hard time deciding in what way he should speak. That was another random fact about himself, but he wouldn't point that one out. It was like a flaw in his personality, and he hated to think he had any flaws.
Speaking of flaws, he realized that he was being extremely rude.
"Oh, forgive me! I got so into talking about myself, I haven't given you a chance to tell me about you. I know your name, but not much else." He lied, because he did know more, but he was not only an amazing stalker, but he was a great actor too.

Lian smiled. Being a person who liked the weirdos, she had decided that she liked Relvey. (Yeah, that's right, Cracker. ) Taking on the same random tune as him, she said, "I like to read and write, my favorite color is green, I play piano, and I'm going for the modern theme in my room." Glancing at her basket, she added, "Fruit is good. Fish is gross." She stopped talking. Relvey had seemed weird, all right, but that didn't make her confident about being herself. She shrugged awkwardly and grabbed a cherry. Right before she bit into it she looked at it. She pulled it away quickly. It was black, rotting, and, well, disgusting. "Ew," she said, and threw it on the ground. It fell into a little hole. Lian left it there, not aware that she might be planting a tree. "That was gross."

He nodded as the girl spoke, telling him things about herself that he had known, and a few things he didn't know. He was glad he had asked about her after all. Seeing as he had never been inside her house, he had no idea what it looked like, or what theme she was after. That was valuable information, and he grinned. However, his grin did not last.
"Gross? Gross you say!? Dear girl, what is wrong with you!? Are there bees in your brain? Have you no taste buds? Fish is wonderful, succulent meat, able to be enjoyed in an assortment of meals. Fruit is delicious as well, but you can't only rely on something like fruit to eat! And if you weren't aware, it's exceptionally hard to find food other than fruit or fish in this town. You'll starve, starve unless you acquire a taste for the fish!" Relvey yelled out his speech with his hands planted firmly on his hips. He thought he'd be done yelling until he noticed her throw the rotting cherry on the ground, and he continued.
"And what was that!? Throwing your dirty, disgusting rotted fruit on the ground!? Don't you know that this is supposed to be a clean town? It's bad enough that there is a horrible, gross dead body rotting away on the grass, but you have your trash there as well? It's disgusting, you're ruining our image! How dare you!? Have you no respect for the other residents who live here- the ones who care what their home looks like!? Do you enjoy making us look like freaking slobs in front of our valued guests!?"
The boy was passionate about such a subject. He was a complete neat freak, and he wasn't even sure if the other townsfolk cared about being clean as much as he did, but he always tried to make it look like they did. He couldn't stand for things to be out of place. Which reminded him, they should probably talk to somebody about that body on the ground....

Lian raised an eyebrow. "First of all," she said, "The only good seafood is vegetarian sushi." Lian hated fish. It was slimy, smelly, and just plain gross. Ever since she was 6 or 7 she had disliked salmon, and other seafood was just as bad. She probably would never learn to like it. In face, she didn't want to. It was just too gross.
"Secondly, I'm still practically a visitor. I freaking moved here yesterday. If you really care about what people think of this town, then you should realize that I come here, find a dead turtle-mayor, and then I'm told that I can't survive without liking fish." She shook her head. "Honestly!" she said.
She was actually enjoying this. It had been a while since she'd gotten some good, hardcore arguing on trivial things when it wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings. That was the problem with debating about things--- some people took it too seriously. Maybe she would be a lawyer.
Pointing to the body, Lian added, "What do we do with that thing, anyways?" She wasn't used to the whole talking animals things. To her it was just a turtle wearing glasses for some strange reason. It wasn't that she wasn't used to it-- she believed that animals were intelligent-- it was just strange having one for a mayor.

"Vegetarian sushi!? That's not even fit to be considered seafood! It's like saying that eating a raw potato is better than eating french fries, mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes! It's not right! But apparently you've got a terrible tongue, so I'm sure you'd agree and say that raw potatoes are better! Crazy foreigners!" Relvey said, continuing to be very loud. Arguing was always a good way to pass the time, so he enjoyed doing it whenever he could. So he happily continued to the argument.
"And what do you mean 'honestly'!? Honestly, honestly, honestly you're entire last statement made absolutely no sense! If you are going to make a point, make sure your words aren't jumbled! Besides, I do care about what people think about the town, and I'm giving you advice on how to survive in this town. It's not my fault the old turtle died on this particular day, but you should be prepared for anything! So true, so true, so I shall blame you completely for this entire situation!" He was almost sure that he was making even less sense then he blamed her for, but he thought it was funny so he didn't say anything.
Relvey looked over at dead Tortimer again, and thought for a moment. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I don't know. I'd say tell Pelly, but she'd be too freaked out. Maybe we should tell Nook...."

Lian shook her head. "Vegetarian sushi is perfectly good, and I don't get how the heck you can like fish. You might as well be eating smelly slime." She made a face. "Now, plain potatoes are good, if they're cooked with butter. And gravy helps. I suppose that's like sushi with fish, but the key part is that, naturally, potatoes are decent things to eat. Unlike fish."
"Now, I think you're an intelligent person. I wouldn't think that you would misunderstand the second part of what I said. After all, you've gotten everything else in this "deep" topic." Her voice dripped with sarcasm. "Besides, maybe the cherry will grow a beautiful tree. That's good for the environment, now isn't it?"
Lian paused for a moment. "I have to say, I'm enjoying this good, solid arguing. You don't get offended by it." Lian hadn't really realized that she liked arguing. Well, she had, once, but then she forgot about it. Now she was remembering.

Relvey snorted. "Well, I'll have you know that smelly slime happens to be one of my favorite meals!" Though he yelled it in a completely serious tone of voice, he was joking. "And I said nothing about plain potatoes, I said raw potatoes! Raw potatoes aren't cooked, stuu~pid! Shows how much you know about the culinary world!"
He snorted again at her next comment. "Perhaps if you actually took the time to speak your words clearly, then I wouldn't have to wonder what in the world you are talking about! And what do you know about the environment!? I'll have you know that my town was completely perfect, every last detail was planned out from the beginning to make my town the ULTIMATE town! And if you have planted a tree in this area, then it throws off the complete balance that I had created. And what does that do to the environment!? Ruins it!"
He had never realized that he could go so long without breathing before. It was actually entertaining to end his sentences feeling completely out of breath. He huffed a few times before smiling. "Sometimes a good argument is needed to get things off of your chest. I'm glad, it's been a long time since I've met someone I could argue with that wouldn't hate me for it. We could make a date of this. Imagine it, once a week just yelling about something stupid! Haha!"

Lian grinned at the last comment. "We could indeed," she said. "Arguing sessions. It's true that sometimes I need to complain, but then, this is a little different." It actually sounded kind of fun to Lian. Maybe she really did have a bizarre sense of humor. She didn't care-- in fact, she took weird as a compliment.
"To give you a point on your side, I like to fish," she said. "I just don't eat them. And giving isn't a BAD thing." She snorted. "Usually," she added. It depended on who you gave TO, after all. For example, give a give to a self-centered person and they'd just think better of themselves. But this was totally different.
"By the way, I like being outside," Lian pointed out. "It's beautiful." She looked around, admiring the deep reds and oranges of the leaves and the purity of the fruit. That one rotten cherry seemed to have been the only one. Shame that she had gotten it. That was pure bad luck.
Lian glanced at the turtle and sniffed. "That thing is really starting to smell," she said. "We need to get rid of it somehow." She made a face. "It's ruining you're beautiful, pure environment." She laughed. "Then again, it proves that I'm not the only one here polluting it. Plus there's global warming, if you believe in it."

"It is different then just complaining. It's also getting all the hollers and screams you've been keeping inside. Arguing is just a good way to blow off some steam." Relvey said. He also enjoyed arguing for the reason that he liked having sudden mood changes. It was like being bipolar, only he could control it, and he found it hilarious. Especially when he went from being super happy and hyper to really angry and hateful.
He nodded at her next words, placing his knuckles under his chin. "Mm, fishing is fun... and I don't eat everything I catch. It have a little fish in my house named Gregory! He's cute." His pet fish had been the first fish that he had ever caught when he came to this town. It was a tiny little pop-eyed goldfish, and Relvey had considered it too small and too cute for eating, so he put it in his house.
Relvey admired the town with her, acting as if it was something he had created completely by himself. Though he took credit for the wondrous town, he really didn't do much other than plant a few trees and pull out any weeds that popped up. "It IS beautiful. I think fall is my favorite of all the seasons...."
"Oh, right, right! We should go find Nook." Relvey grabbed Lian's arm and began to drag her away in the direction of Nook's store. "He's a tanuki, by the way. I don't think he minds if you call him a raccoon, but I like to call the animals by their proper species." And there he went, giving off random, useless information about himself. Oh, how conceited he was.

"A tanuki?" Lian asked. "I don't think I've ever heard of that." Apparently it looked like a racoon, though, if Nook was mistaken for one sometimes. That was another interesting thing about animal village; some animals were quick to tell you about their species, and you learned a lot. Lian looked around as they crossed a bridge. The water here was so beautiful and clear. In some places she could see all the way to the bottom. That meant that she was able to admire the beautiful fish-- although they quickly swam away if she walked to fast. The fish seemed to be smart, which would make it harder to catch them. "If the other animals can talk, then why can't the fish?" Lian asked suddenly. It seemed odd. Maybe it was just because they lived underwater, but Lian didn't think that that was the case. There were also insects here, and if animals were intelligent you'd think they would be too. "And the insects. This place is wonderful, but it's so... strange." She shrugged. It would probably just take some getting used to. As she was walking, Lian ate another cherry. This one was delicious. She wondered if she really could bury fruit to plant trees. It seemed possible, and it was very easy. She just needed to get a shovel... but she had saved up some money before coming here, so she figured that she would manage. She would have to go the the Town Hall, first, and convert her money to bells. At least they didn't use chocolate coins, like they had in one town she'd lived in. At one point she had eaten the money that she'd wanted to save up. Realizing that she was lost in her thoughts, Lian started to listen to Relvey's answers again. (I USED A SEMICOLON! )
